1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using FocusJar ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

FocusJar is a macOS application that blocks access to websites you designate for a period of time you choose. Early termination of a blocking session requires payment of an unlock fee that you set before starting the session. The App operates at the system level and blocks designated websites across all browsers and applications.

3. Unlock Fees and Payments

When you start a blocking session, you choose an unlock fee (ranging from $5 to $100). If you choose to end a session early, you will be charged the unlock fee you selected. By starting a session with an unlock fee, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • The unlock fee is a voluntary, self-imposed charge.
  • You authorize us to charge your payment method for the unlock fee if you choose to end a session early.
  • Unlock fees are non-refundable once charged.
  • All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your card details on our servers or your device.

4. System-Level Access

FocusJar requires system-level permissions to block websites effectively. By granting these permissions, you acknowledge that the App will modify your system's network configuration to enforce blocking. The App will only modify settings necessary to block the websites you have designated, and all changes are reversed when a blocking session ends naturally or is unlocked.

5. No Guarantee of Productivity

FocusJar is a tool to support focus and productivity. We make no guarantees regarding the results you will achieve by using the App. Your results depend on your own choices and usage of the App.

6. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Use the App in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App.
  • Not use the App for any unlawful or prohibited purpose.
  • Not circumvent or attempt to circumvent the App's blocking mechanisms through technical means.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FocusJar and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or inability to access websites during a blocking session.

8. Beta Disclaimer

The App is currently in beta. Features may change, be added, or be removed without notice. The App is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied.

9. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
